A BEAR'S EYE VIEW
Acrylic mixed media memory scape on wood
36" x 24" | 92 cm x 61 cm
This is the first painting I did Nagoya my home town in Japan, it is also the first piece to come out of my tiny Japanese studio. It was created just a couple of month after our move. I absolutely love the architecture and atmosphere of Japanese cities. The juxtaposition between traditional and modern architecture is awesome and you find art litterally everywhere! I also love the Japanese script and the wide variety if different fonts that they use. This piece doesn't even begin to scratch the surface, there is just so much to explore in Japan!
At the time I would frequently pick an area of the city to explore for the day. I would wander around in awe, taking in all the new sights, smells and sounds, my camera always at the ready to capture every quirky detail.
Over time the strangeness became familiar and Nagoya became home but I would still get excited every time I’d see a kawaii animal on display in an unusual place!
Japan never lost its sense of magic for me, even after three years of living there. This painting was created as a first exploration of my new home town but since then it has taken on a whole new meaning to me. Now it is a precious memory that keep the country I miss so dearly close to my heart.
My paintings help me to stay connected to the places I had to leave behind and I hope they will evoke similar memories for you and inspire you to reconnect to the beauty of the world around you.
I want to help you relive happy memories of familiar places and inspire you to visit and explore destinations you would otherwise never have thought to visit. I invite you to be nostalgic with me and (re)-discover the world through my eyes.
These pieces convey the heart and soul of the city, I am fascinated by the urban landscape and the people that populate it. I love that unique viewpoint you have as a traveler, you start noticing the most mundane, everyday objects. These essential elements make up the living, breathing and evolving ecosystem of a city.
In my work I combine my love of photography, painting and travel. I merge many photographs into a singular image that, at first glance, reflects reality, but there is a little mystery there. I encourage you to explore, let your mind wander and your imagination run free!
WHAT MATERIALS ARE USED TO CREATE THIS ARTWORK?
This mixed media painting on wood is created using a combination of hand layered photo transfer techniques and acrylic paints and mediums. Click here to see the creation process of a similar artwork from start to finish.
IS THE ARTWORK SIGNED?
Yes, all original artworks are signed on the front in the lower right corner. They also have their title, date, artist name and a signed certificate of authenticity on the back.
IS THIS PAINTING READY TO HANG?
Yes all my wood panel pieces are all ready to hang, most have a wire on the back or, for larger pieces a set of eyelets that enable flush mounting (flush mounting is highly recommended for pieces larger than 48”x36”). My paintings are not framed but the sides are painted black so they show beautifully without a frame. If you prefer I can arrange framing for you, fill out the form below for a quote. Because framing adds weight and volume during shipping you may prefer to have your local framer do the work.
I LOVE YOUR ARTWORK BUT NOT SURE I CAN AFFORD IT RIGHT NOW. DO YOU OFFER A PAYMENT PLAN?
Absolutely! It is very important to me that you can add the piece you fell in love with to your collection, when it comes to purchasing art you should not have to make concessions. That is why the Artist Abroad is always happy to offer a payment plan that fits your situation. When full payment has been made the artwork will be delivered to you.
